Well, like on your friends Sherman tank, you have to come up with a way to spin all wheels on each side. On a tank the track does that for you. To implement on a wheeled vehicle, either a separate motor on each wheel or use sprockets and roller chain to drive all wheels on a side with the same motor (two motors, each driving the left and right wheels). Both setups have been used in the past.
