5 acres is more than enough. The largest field that we've ever battled
on was not much bigger than a soccer field (approx 2 acres). Most of
our battles use only about an acre of space, with sufficient room around
the periphery so that paintballs don't hit things they are not suppose
to hit.
Paintball parks are an obvious choice, but they usually charge more to
rent the field than most small groups can afford. Private property is
the most common venue.

I've always wondered what type of area people look for in a battle
field. I mean would five acres that some of my family owns be considered
battle field land. Or is it paintball parks that some tend to lean to?
And on the question of insurance has anyone ever needed it?

How do battle hosts handle liability issues when trying to secure
public areas for battles? The model warship club membership
(<http://www.mwci.org>www.mwci.org <http://www.mwci.org>) includes
insurance coverage that will cover anyone injured- spectators and
combatants- during battles. Park officials see this insurance as good
liability coverage, but I haven't seen any insurance mentioned for the
tank battles.
We have good accessable areas for battles, but they are still within
city boundaries. Paintballs are considered weapons and it may be
difficult to get permission without insurance. Should I consult local
insurance companies for one event coverage?
