Hey Chris, Thanks for your reply... Australia, yes, a very deadly country indeed, scorpions, spiders, snakes OH MY!!! LOL. One of these days the wife and I would love to take a "peek" at your magnificent nation.
A couple of questions...(taking you up on the helping out part-THANKS)... You used the smooth cast 305 resin for all the wheels, idlers, sprockets and tread components... Are you satisfied with the strength of all the pieces involved? I'm guessing yes, based on the one video... I'm basically wondering if you had any concerns, warnings, suggestions for improvement on that process? I'd like to build a Jagdpanther, which would employ similar componentry for its tread/wheel system. I guess the central "fins" on the inner tread pieces are holding up well, as well? I'm very impressed with the look of the treads, they looked so compact upon first glance, I thought they were single tread pieces that were pinned together, instead of the TTS that you employed... I think you choice of coloring the tread pieces make then blend in beautifully with the black conveyor belting. I was thinking of making aluminum treads, that I'd cut the necessary notches into and then drill pin holes into... but it would require a ton of cutting aluminum, which I have ZERO experience doing... And the big issue if I where to choose that route would be making the necessary holes in each tread piece to accept the sprockets' teeth-YIKES!! So the casting looks like it could work well. It looks like from the map indicator at the RC Tank Combat site, that you have several "chaps" around the Victoria area that have some R/C tanks build. Have you tried to make contact with them? Well, I appreciate your excellent blog pages, and the generous offer of assistance. I look forward to your reply! I'm glad I could be of inspiration. This new stug is a completely separate build, I used EV-X motors in T44, for my new build I'm using 350W scooter motors (the ones with the built in gear reduction) as they are heaps easier to mount, and can run directly to the drive shaft without gearing them down. As for habitation. I come from a magical land of strange creatures and vast expanses, both of which will kill you given half the chance! Australia, more specifically south Australia. Cheers, Chris. b P.S if I can be of help getting your idea off the ground (what ever it may be) let me know. -- You are currently subscribed to the "R/C Tank Combat" group.
