I am really glad to hear that. I've got a Futaba 9 channel radio that came out just prior to the Ni-MH batteries being supplied in the system. Seeing as the Tx is not aware that there really is a batery in it I'll be acquiring the 'new' technology posthaste.

in the past futaba at least equipped their radios with Ni-Cd packs and it was common practice to buy an aftermarket Ni-MH pack to gain increased runtime... Ive made this switch on both of the airplane radios Ive owned with no issues using the OEM plug in wall chargers as well as aftermarket fast chargers where the pack had to come out of the radio to charge.

my newest radio, the futaba 7c is probably 5 years old now and thats the last time I replaced a Tx pack due to interests changing and not flying anymore. (my radio predates the switch to the 2.4ghz systems unfortunately by only a few months)

Neil,
After researching the web concerning charging NiMH and NiCad batteries, I believe that they can both be used in the same devices (like the transmitter) and charged using the same charger. They are both 1.2V and have similar amperages and discharge curves. I have not had to replace my transmitter batteries yet, but when I do I plan on using NiMH since they are more common and easier to find than NiCad batteries these days. If I see a mushroom smoke cloud in the east over the ocean in the next few days, I'll know this was bad advice. Good luck.
Bill

I hope this doesnt sound like too much of a stupid question, but
my Tx battery is on it way out.
Its ni-cad and only holds charge for half an hour now.
I have scoured ebay but can only find Ni-MH equivalents . my
question is - will my charger happily charge either Ni-cad or Ni-MH ?
