little bit of information there about steel fabrication. 

I like steel as it is the easiest for me to work with as my shop is setup 
for steel fabrication. I honestly think the weight saved with aluminium is 
minimal, if compared to a well designed steel hull, obviously steel is 
heavy so try and use as little as possible! I have most of my parts laser 
cut, as it saves me a lot of time and increases accuracy. With that said, 
if you are willing to spend the time you could achieve the same result with 
an angle grinder, pedestal drill and mig welder. Other tools that aren't 
needed but would make it easier, a sheet metal guillotine, plasma cutter, 
oxy acetylene torch, linisher, bandsaw  etc.
