Hi Doug, Stepper motors have very high torque rates and cheap drivers. But a constant current draw makes them very unefficient in a mobile applicaltion. A dc motor (without closed loop control) doesn't require power at standstill. A steppermotor always draw full (or half current) to generate the holding torque.
