This is for backup use only. These would not be used for off grid systems. We have a lot of cloudy days in Appalachian Ohio, and PV backup systems need help. In a worst case scenario year, the generator might run 20 hours or so.

I was once accused (and acquitted) of burning our the controls of an electric range while testing wiring with a cheap generator. So long as the generator will provide sufficient power quality to not harm the electronics in a furnace, computer or other appliance, it is elegible.

I place Coleman, Generac, North-star and a lot of the small 3600 RPM

form, lack of real service, and basically a fine waste of money. I have
clients that could not afford a good water cooled generator that have not
been through one cheap generator about once every two years.

You could buy a big boat...........

Subject: [RE-wrenches] Small Generators

Hello Wrenches,

Has anyone had problems with small generators, creating problems with
electrical or electronic equipment? I'd like to incorporate Coleman
Powermate generators in backup systems. They have units in the 5 KW
range that have engines that seem fairly sophisticated. They do not
have electronic voltage regulators, but appear to have effective governors.

Thanks,

Drake
