Hi Orion, RE: Can anyone help me to determine the commutation type and rated power factor (%) for a Fronius 4000 IG.
Line commutation. Basically, this means they sync with an existing grid (line). Non-islanding inverters are line commutated. PF = 100% (aka 1.0 PF) according to their spec sheet. Double-check your copy to make sure your application matches the datasheet... Technically, grid-tied inverters operate at Unity Power Factor, i.e. "the same PF the grid is giving it". But "Unity" is not a number, percentage or otherwise. I used to put it on applications back in the day, just to be ornery. Good luck! Matt Lafferty
