Mac,
Well, maybe not yet.

If you expect to run consistently high current, you will want a shunt larger than 500A, as according to Ralph Heisey at Bogart Engineering, most shunts can handle about 2/3 of their rated capacity for extended duration, before the heat generated is sufficient to cause irreversible damage. !,000A and 1,200 amp shunts are available from Deltec, but they have a different size dimension and thus need a somewhat different cable buss design. This came up a few months age, when we also needed cabling to handle 850 - 1,000 A (four SI5048s and a Radian on one system). At that time, Robin at Midnite directed his staff to order several of these larger shunts in order to develop a Big Buss and Shunt Buss product set to work with these bad boys.

As of today, nothing is shown on Midnite's website product page for shunts larger than 500A. Fortunately, our project was delayed until this coming winter, so we may be able to benefit from Midnite's work. I'll copy Robin on this message and forward his response as to what products for higher current DC busbar/cabling combinations will become available in the near future. I think that we will have increasing need for such higher-capacity hardware, in order to remain Code-compliant on larger systems.

Hi Wrenches,

I am looking for a >500A DC rated DC bussing, one with a built in shunt and one without.  I'll need at least 4 terminals/bussbar that will bolt on or land 4 ott cable.  Does anyone know where I can find something like this?

Thanks
