We built a complete solar system using MC4 connectors on all the cables. A small battery, a 30A charge controller, and 2 x 80W panels gave them all the components in an easy to assemble system. We also made two load items, a few computer fans mounted on a piece of rail and a DC water pump with MC4 connectors to improvise a fountain. We also made up a 200W inverter with MC4 connectors so they could plug in a table light. The MC4 connectors made sure the polarity was correct and that they could connect the components but not disconnect them.
One of the kids was so quick on the uptake that he came by our warehouse with a bunch of younger kids, asked for the system, and proceeded to teach the others how to build a solar system. Very cool.
