I have a friend who lives in Astoria, OR. looking for some PV help/assistance. Below is what he wrote to me.
Any takers out there in that part of the woods? Thanks, marco I have a friend here who would like to power his well pump using PV. He already has about 20 PV modules rated at 15 watts @ 12VDC each. His well pump is a 1/2 HP, 120VAC, single phase, 12 amp starting and 10 amp running current draw. He'd like to use the PV as its primary power (with battery buffer storage) and a transfer switch to the grid for backup if needed during the winter months. He says the max running time for the pump is one hour a day at 1200 watts. He thinks he needs to use six panels wired for 24VDC (60 watts ?) output and two 12 VDC deep-cycle batteries. Make sense to you? Would you configure it differently? What brand of inverter and charge controller (and any other hardware needed) would you recommend he use?
