Anyone else out there have problems with Bergeys new generation XL1 towers? I was warned they were not as robust as the old NRG Tall towers, but we just had one fold under it's own weight when we were trying to lower it. It had been involved in several lightening strikes. We had it about 1/4 of the way down, the guys sets were all loose. It had a typical bow, but that usually straightens out the more gravity takes over.
We've had several collapse from lightening alone. But this is the first that fell apart after we started lowering it. I'm hearing small residential wind is on the ropes, and few tower manufacturers are willing to admit problems.
Any war stories would be appreciated. Thanks. db
