I posed this question to Solaredge last year. Basically the (Solaredge at least) inverter will not connect unless the generator frequency is within normal grid tolerance, which would be rare with a typical house generator. But if it did connect, and the generator kw were less than the inverter kw, it could potentially turn the alternator into a motor, spinning it backwards.

We almost always will tie in upstream of a generator transfer switch, but a competitor is telling clients with an enphase system there is no concern. Am I missing something?
