You can set up a DC side load dump, l would look at the Blue Ion battery
system because of the great BMS, l have done systems with OutBack dumping
to all kinds of loads, just need to make sure the charge volts are high
enough for both systems

Dear people:

I have a customer with a solar array for his 24V system, Bergey Excel 10
wind genny, 12KW Kohler generator, two Outback controllers and two FX
inverters. He currently has a set of the Solar One SO-6-100-33/24
batteries, which have maybe a year or two left in their life. What he
would like to do is add a separate battery bank – perhaps a set of LFPs
(like SimpliPhi). He wants a set up where, when his Solar One batteries
are full, the excess voltage ‘automatically’ charges his secondary battery
bank.

I am wondering if a dump load controller would suffice (so when his Solar
One batteries are full, excess voltage is dumped to the secondary battery
bank), but I’m not getting much help from any manufacturers as to what
might work. Any suggestions?

Best,

Chris Daum
