I have a customer with the exact setup 1/2 hp. been running for 17 years
no problems. I wired it so the pressure switch turns on power to the PS240
I also have a customer with a 1.5 hp pump on a Magnum 4024 been running
about 6 years. The red flag I see is the current draw is too high for a
1/2 hp pump. moments ago I looked on egauge for this customer and the 1/2
hp pump draws about 600 to 800 watts, I do not know why it varies, it has
just over 1kw on start surge. I suspect it is the water level in the
well. the well is 200 feet deep but I do not know the drawdown level. If
your customer has a well that is going dry or the water level has dropped
or the pump has an insufficent head. Try to get an estimate on the water
use. I use an egauge and measure the run time to fill the diaphragm tank
and measure the fill volume(on off of presure switch) If the total volume
is low, the head of the existing pump might be low. I had a customer with
excessive runtime where the pipe from the submersible to the surface was
leaking, So that means the pump should be pulled.
