Thanks for all of the responses on this guys. I looked around and found these
units from Solar BOS.

Hi Darryl,

I have been looking into the Tigo TS4-F rapid shutdown option, including
attending a webinar on their products.

As far as I have been told, they DO use a powerline carrier communications
method to trigger the MLPE units.

A trigger device has to be wired to AC to detect loss of grid, and one
conductor of every PV string must go through their attached CT donut which
imposes this communications onto the PV wiring, and communicating with the
module level components.

>From their documentation:

TS4-F units automatically enter rapid shutdown mode when the RSS Transmitter is
switched off and resume energy production when power is restored to the RSS
Transmitter. This solution complies with NEC 2014 & 2017 690.12 specifications
utilizing power-line communication (PLC).

Please tell me what system you have that is wireless?

Thanks,

Glenn

Try Tigo, they have a MLPE shutdown wireless and does not use PLC (Power Line
Communication).  With an unknown inverter, the inverter switching noise may
trigger the Tigo's PLC to keep on or shut off.   Shutting off the inverter
stoping module array current, and the AC supply to the "Gateways" loss of the
heartbeat signal causes the shutdown of the modules.   I have used such an
arrangement and it is passing every test.  This was maybe 1 or two years ago.
Tigo may have made changes since then.  hope this helps.

Dear Wrenches,

We are installing a system for a project we did not design. The plans specify 5
Ginlong Solis inverters. Ginlong does not make their own rapid shutdown device,
so units by Innovative Solar Products have been specified. The Innovative Solar
rapid shutdowns are made to order and will take 4 weeks (not good for us).

Does anyone know another mfr that makes rapid shutdown devices that are
compatible with other mfrs inverters?

Thanks,

Jerry Caldwell
