Hi Todd, There are reasons like parts availability and sourcing modules
from an outside vendor. Not as easy to keep a production line running
(building pcbs, soldering, wiring, sensors, etc) for a product that is not
a huge seller. They still have very good support and I think their HZLA is
hard to beat. No ladders or weirdness on assembly.

Not much of a fan for
using gps to do this offgrid either....

what i do not understand
is why they discontinued manufacturing and servicing the old sensor based
array tech units? i have four that are fully functional still. all i do is
grease them once a year, but if/when there is a failure i have no repair
options.

Hi :)

What I do for many of mine to eliminate the
possible really being off in winter is to remove the bolts and turn the
array to the morning setting you want. In winter you are rotating maybe 75
degrees from the morning position. I set the elevation to shed snow and
forget it until early spring. This way the electronics are not searching as
much and always go home to the morning position. It could be 75 degrees off
on yours in the AM if you are letting it run that summer go to east stop.

I do not have this problem here on top of a mountain. You may have to
replace the controller/sensor with a single axis one to eliminate this if
it is not working well in my first paragraph. Kyle and Jeff are great, what
are they saying?

that's what's most pronounced. I've looked at All Earth but it's a full
assembly, not really a retrofit using someone else's motors. I have worked
with Kyle at Array Technologies, and he's been great, but it's still having
issues. I think the big thing is that once it's lost the sun for a while,
it's difficult for it to recover, even when the sun comes out. There is a
ghost mode that it's supposed to rotate the azimuth at a fixed rate when
the sensor is below a certain threshold, but we just don't seem to be able
to get it correct. It's tough to troubleshoot it too. Thanks

Mac, which
mode is being confused elevation or azimuth. What have you replaced and
what does Jeff Grulic say of Wattsun?

The photo sensor I like is the
single axis. There really is little need to use the dual axis for offgrid,
in my opinion.

controller that can work with a variety of tracker motors? We don't do
trackers much but we have a WattSun DuraTrak controller that has never
worked well, we've tried all sorts of tweaks. Its a tougher location that a
lot because there are high snowy peaks that confuse the tracker I guess.
It seems like something would be out there that would just use the sun
position equation instead of sensors that can be confused. Thanks for
your input
