Hi Jerry, You have good points, and I'm not pushing back on those. Dealing with long term outages during natural (or unnatural) disasters is a big challenge with tradeoffs on any route you go. Battery technology is improving rapidly and coming down in cost. If you have a 150 kWh battery in your EV in your driveway already connected to your home for charging purposes, wouldn't you want the flexibility of V2G to keep your home running during an outage? Heck, add a fossil fuel genny or stationary battery if you want. V2G isn't here yet, but it is coming and the possibilities are awesome.
Getting back to Carl's initial question - how do we respond to potential clients who are trying to buy products now? Well, we offer the best choices on the market right now. Hopefully AC-coupling will allow EVs of the future to connect to PV systems through V2G. It's the classic question of whether someone should buy what is available now or wait for new technology. Grid tied PV is mature and works well. Now is a great time to go solar. ESS? Well, we're still in the early adopter phase for the newer gen lithium tech such as what Tesla, SolarEdge, Enphase, SunPower, Generac, etc are offering. Adoption rates for our customers are exceeding 50% pairing ESS with new PV systems. So far these systems are beating my expectations although they are challenging to design and build. But if the grid goes down for multiple days? It will be a mixed bag of some great success stories versus others running out of juice while the grid is still down. Nonetheless, it's a really exciting time to be in the PV and ESS business!
