Wrenches it does depend on your customer, if you never want to have to go out in the rain and fix cracked tiles under the array, Tile will fail under an array dry out and crack, freeze and crack, they all crack, I always quote to strip the roof, comp it and install your array, it will look better cut the weight and never leak, then if space allows put tile back down around the array, top and sides never on the bottom. Once done you will have an array that is lower in profile with better ventilation, looks much better, you now have spare tiles that the homeowner will need anyway. Now if you don't like your customers, sure go with tile and that also goes for shake and slate too. I have seen many tile failures over the years under the array and none is warrantable so leaky roof and the customer pays, that's great for PR.But hey that's just me, many years doing this and seeing failures that should not have ever happened.
