I just had an FM 60 reset to factory specs. This is on an old lead acid set up so can't blame lithium. Not online.

Has anyone else had issues with outback charge controllers resetting to
default settings? I just had a FM100 do this (and shut the whole system down because the default settings were too high of voltage for a 15 cell LFP, so the battery turned itself off for protection). The logs show that
the values were set to 0 from the proper settings, then to the default
settings from 0, on site. But no one was on site. I changed them back
remotely via opticsRE, and it logged me as changing them back, as it should
have.

Occasionally in the past I've had similar things happen, and always kind of
chalked it up to the customer perhaps messing with the system, but this
time I know that no one was there to adjust it locally at the time that it
says it was changed.

I have another site this week that does not have opticsRE, that the FM100
may have reset to default settings as well. Same thing -- lithium
batteries shutting off from overvoltage all of a sudden. I am still
investigating that one.

I have had that happen before on at least 3 different occasions.
Specifically with the fm100. Totally random and couldn't come up with a logical explanation. I just reprogram and roll with it...always seemed odd
though.

While on the subject of VFX inverters in regards to the fan and internal temp sensors, I've got a client with a circa 2010 VFX3624 that appears to have a failed fan. I don't normally deal with 24 volt inverters. I've got many dead VFX3648 units hanging out. My question is can I cannibalize a fan out of a 48 volt unit and put it in a 24 volt unit? Next, let's say the fan is ok and based on the readings above I should look into replacing the xfmr temp sensor. Again, can I take one out of a 48v inverter and use it on a 24v unit? Which board might be suspect as well that the xfmr temp sensor
feeds its information too?

Thanks,
Christopher

As l recall all the fans are the same PN same with the sensors. Just
relocate the temp sender to the new location as l recall it is on top of
the xfmr.

It?s been a lot of years since replaced one, but from memory, the early FX had the temp sensor plugged into the board.

Later models, I don?t know when it started had the temp sensor attached to the transformer with tape but it still attaches to the same plug on the board.

The replacement temp sensors attach to the transformer and include the high temp tape to attach to the transformer.

it takes all of about 2 minutes to do, once you have the top taken off the inverter.

Since the cost of the site visit and time to remove the inverter to replace the $20 temp sensor is high, i also replace the fan as its also inexpensive but the service call is expensive for the client

I presume that Zonna has the temp sensors and maybe fans again.

As l recall all the fans are the same PN same with the sensors. Just relocate the temp sender to the new location as l recall it is on top of the xfmr.

Which board might be suspect as well that the xfmr temp sensor feeds its information too?

Thanks,
Christopher

Wrenches, Jay,
Transformer temp sensors in the FX Fails, fans fail causing fet boards to overheat, dirty filters cause high temps on all the intervals. When outback was still running the parts department you always got temp senders with fans, boards and a relocation procedure, yes you must put the sensor in a new location.

?Drake,
I agree with Ray,
The message you?re seeing does not refer to the RTS that has been absent for years- it?s an issue with an internal sensor. I have seen intermittent warnings relating to internal sensors on VFX units that have self-resolved with a reboot, but if the warning is persistent then you?ll likely need to open the unit up and replace the sensor.

A couple of years back, a client changed from lead acid batteries to LiFeBlue, lithium batteries. At that time the temperature sensor was removed.

The other day, a warning light started blinking. The warning turned out to be a bad temperature sensor. It is strange that this message showed up now, as the sensor has been gone for years.

Is there any way to turn off the warning light?

Thank you,

Yes, it keeps happening to me as well. At least 8 times now. The first
couple times I blamed myself and thought I had made the rookie default
settings mistake I see on other's sites but now I know better. Only the
FM100. Just got back from a site that resulted in the client's Radian
shutting down due to battery volt sense faults from it. First time it has caused shutdowns though. Looks like her Blue Ions had been sitting at 57.6
for months now. Unfortunately she has Hughesnet that almost never works
with Opticsre otherwise I would have caught it. Extremely frustrating, I've easily eaten enough service calls and equipment failures for Outback over
the years that I could have paid off a Toyota Yaris. No exaggeration.

Has anyone else had issues with outback charge controllers resetting to default settings? I just had a FM100 do this (and shut the whole system down because the default settings were too high of voltage for a 15 cell LFP, so the battery turned itself off for protection). The logs show that
the values were set to 0 from the proper settings, then to the default
settings from 0, on site. But no one was on site. I changed them back remotely via opticsRE, and it logged me as changing them back, as it should
have.

Occasionally in the past I've had similar things happen, and always kind of chalked it up to the customer perhaps messing with the system, but this time I know that no one was there to adjust it locally at the time that it
says it was changed.

I have another site this week that does not have opticsRE, that the FM100
may have reset to default settings as well. Same thing -- lithium
batteries shutting off from overvoltage all of a sudden. I am still
investigating that one.
