The 2 raw DC pins definitely aren't enough. The charger/connector and the
vehicle need to speak the same language, and for safety they rely on
continual handshake (image below for CCS pinout)

L1: Line 1, used for single-phase or three-phase AC power.
L2: Line 2, used for three-phase AC power.
L3: Line 3, used for three-phase AC power.
N: Neutral, used to complete the circuit.
PE: Protective Earth, used for grounding for safety.
PP: Proximity Pilot, used for detecting the plug's insertion and removal
status.
CP: Control Pilot, used for communication between the charging station and
the electric vehicle to coordinate the charging process.
DC+: Direct Current positive, used for transmitting direct current.
DC-: Direct Current negative, used for transmitting direct current.
