RB Lite - Platform specific, single compilation target, no support for container controls or multi user databases and maybe no external plugin support.
RB Standard - DIY version with container control support and plugin support.
RB Database - Standard with multi user database support (still single compilation target) RB Professional - Database Edition with multiple compilation targets and hooks for remote debugger stubs, plus a bloody project collaboration manager! RB Enterprise - Database Edition, with a licence key for each platform's IDE (i.e - includes mac, windows and linux IDE key's.)

There is too much difference (multiple compilation targets, multi user databases, container controls + more) between Standard and Pro at the moment. IMO this is significantly contributing to the 3rd part market issues being discussed at such a great depth on the list at the moment.

Sure! You forgot about the academic versions. I think Geoff has a soft spot for under resourced education people, bless him. And it sure makes for a more complicated purchasing model. I sure wouldn't want RB Lite Academic ;-)

Steve Jobs wouldn't even consider Toms' model (remember all those PPC models, eg 7200, 7500). He streamlined a lot of Apple's products.
There's no way RS should make it mode complicated.....

In fact get rid of the academic options.
Either it's RB or RB Pro. Simple.
