Hm? On my systems, I have TAR, ZIP, GZIP, BZ2 and quite some other
archive tools to pack several items in one file.

Moreover, I may use millions of UNIX or Windows Shell commands to
automatically pack, unpack or transform this stuff some way. Even
automatic uploading isn't a problem at all. Based on a non-standard
archive format, this would at least be complicated...

And, btw, you know that the whole open-source community uses various
text based formats to exchange source code? Besides the fact that this
allows for extensive external tool support, it is the simplest common
format.
