I don't think this is true anymore, sure they learn C but only for doing
something very specific and they don't get very good at C. Java (and C++)
dominates the "market"

For some applications I would say "have been forced on people", that is they
use it because everybody else uses it, not because it's so good ... if that's
a "killer app" then OK ...but not in my mind (but I judge by usefulness and
elegance also, not only number of sold copies)
