Mike's explanation would only make sense if you were using threads. With no threads, there is nothing to yield to -- your code is being called from the main loop already. So I don't know why you'd be getting socket events in this case. But it seems like the sort of problem Aaron would sink his teeth into; maybe he'll chime in.
