It does. Compiled apps have not been getting "bigger and bigger". They've generally been getting somewhat smaller in each release, but they took a step in the other direction in RB2005 because of some changes necessary for making REALbasic compile in REALbasic. (As an added bonus, these changes also mean that all methods are now virtual, including those of built-in and plugin classes. And yes, apps are somewhat bigger too. Deal with it.)

But getting back to the point... the new compiler's architecture was designed from the ground up to support both cross-platform and platform-specific optimizations, and some of those are already in place. This is quite unlike the original compiler, where such changes were more or less impossible.
