Please, this is purely speculative at the time. Personally, I don't believe the above is a great use, but I'm looking for a reliable method.

If you really want to know what chip you're running on, use Gestalt.

gestaltNativeCPUtype = 'cput'
gestaltNativeCPUfamily = 'cpuf'


One of those should do the trick.
