Not right?

Here is an string that I just checked on my HD-2
file:///Volumes/Data/HomePagesAtWork/ibolya-new/hamnen.html

That's the absolute path which also includes a / at the beginning

Nope, it is NOT an absolute path, it is an urlString created from an folderitem and converted to an urlString by REALbasic (The html file exists on an another Volume than Volume(0)

But the path TO the file is absolute as far as the OS is concerned

/Volumes/Data/HomePagesAtWork/ibolya-new/hamnen.html

is the path and in Terminal you could do

        cat /Volumes/Data/HomePagesAtWork/ibolya-new/hamnen.html

and it would work

File URLS, according to the RFC are file://<path to file>
and in this case what you gave is the OS level absolute path to that file
