Nah, I've managed it (for localhost server installations), but I've
never wrapped the interface up into a proper package.

Not so if you run MacOSX, or Windows, and have either command line
tools to
access the databases or use lasses that do not require the pro
version.
eg
the way I access mysql databases works with RB5.5.5 Standard.
