ID3 -tags are quite well documented so that might help you: http://www.id3.org/id3v2.3.0.html
With the artworks there might be some copyright issues as well. As addition to ID3 another option is to check whether the data is available in FreeDB. The problem with that database just is that the data is a mess: sometimes track returns an artist and vice versa. It's better than nothing anyway.
