I believe that REALSQLDatabase's are not supported on a network volume under
OS X. I'm sure Will Leshner will give us the definitive answer once the
sessions are over at REAL World.

Oh, yes. Chris is right. I have to apologize for my earlier posting, not being precise enough.

What I am doing is the following: On a remote ( via Internet) Xserve G5 running an OSX 10.3.9 server system I have both AFP Share folders and a RealSQLServerDatabase. The Share folders have several reference files that are RealSQldatabases. I also have the same configuration on a local (in my house) MacMini running OSX 10.3.9 standard OS as well on my wife's iMac G4 running OSX 10.4.3. My apps are running on a PowerBook G4 (10.3.9) connected via AirPort to my home network

The reference databases are copied to the PowerBook ( where my application runs) if the local files are out of date. Other Text and binary files in the Share folders are opened and written to directly by the applications. They are accessed via f = Volume(x).child(folder).Child(filename). And that is what I am doing routinely.

I am not opening a RealSQldatabase remotely. I discovered early on that this is not supported, and forgot to realize that when I responded to the OP.
