How about saying... "We scheduled a universal release of our software
for the original date specified by Apple for the introduction of x86
hardware which is still 6 months away. Apple's early introduction of
Intel equipment took us and a lot of others by surprise. We are on
track to meet our original target date however, and a universal
binary will be provided free of charge once available"
That's about what I've been saying to my customer's, at least to
those who care (I generally sell my software complete with hardware -
macs, printers and everything, so it's not a huge issue for me just
yet). All you have to then is hope that RS keep up their end of the
bargain, and that when they do it's as simple as a recompile to
produce a universal binary.

Just relax, Apple did this one very well, Rosetta will run your app
very well.
Realsoftware will ship universal builder soon, this year, perhaps in
6 months, I have no idea. But I know they will.
The market for universal app's in not big, perhaps it is the extra
promotion for you app that you are after ?
I agree with Mr. Johannsson, I *know* the "universal builder" is
coming and
I have absolute faith that it will work great when it does!
For me, the problem is entirely a public relations-type issue.
What do I
tell customers that ask when a universal version of my apps will be
available? And what do I say when they ask why one is not available?
I could try and say: "Well, I use Real Software's development tool
for that
app and Real just hasn't said yet. So, I have no idea. I can't give
you an
estimate, I can only tell you that it will come eventually." It's the
truth, of course, it just makes my helplessness so obvious --- I
worry what
the customer must think, seeing the constant stream of universal
apps being
announced on a daily basis.
I could just say: "I'm working really hard on it!" but that's just
not true!
I'm doing *nothing* to bring it about!
So far, I haven't come up with a good answer that doesn't sound
like I am
blaming Real or Apple, or being evasive. (Is there anybody else I can
blame? Intel? Ha, ha....just kidding.) What are other RB users
telling
customers?
This is not Real's fault, after all they just found out about this
in June
2005. I can't even comprehend the massive effort that Real must be
expending to make the necessary changes to RB "under the hood" ---
plus roll
out the "normal" RB2005 releases over the last year.
