I just bought a MacBook, I was willing to buy a new copy of Office to get UB support, but didn't because UB isn't available. I'll continue to use my ancient version of Office and upgrade it when UB becomes available.
Assuming that the UB upgrade costs less than the current version of Office, MS is leaving money on the table.
