I designed my software to conform with the guidelines however I have not had
the time to acquire the equipment to test against the specific requirements
using the various Microsoft tools that collect data about the test
environment and I think report test passes and failures. In particular, the
hardware tests specify that the 1st test computer (for software testing)
needs to have Windows XP Home on a single processor computer (see the
techical hardware testing document immediately) and the 2nd test computer
needs to have a dual-core processor running Windows XP Professional. The
hard disk needs to be partitioned into several specific drives with
particular letters and sizes. I obtained the Verisign account and Microsoft
account last November but am still thinking about how best to do the
testing. I think I'll investigate VMWare to see if I can easily set up a
virtual machine with the specifications for testing multiple software
quickly and efficiently to an initial environment that conforms to the
specifications.

Having said that, XP has had a life of many years and Vista is around the
corner. The designed for XP program will be replaced by a designed for
Vista program at some stage. If you qualify for designed for Vista, this
does not mean you qualify for designed for XP, you must test all operating
systems that you wish to use to designed for Windows logo and there are
various logos.

Paul
