I'd expect the old image to be used. REALbasic stores references to most external items on the Mac as aliases, not as paths. That means that if you move or rename the file, it's still found. This is a feature.

Except that REALbasic does something to the pictures so that they are locked open. Then if you edit the image in Photoshop, Photoshop is unable to save the changes since REALbasic has the image open for writing (why?). The only method to fix this is to at least close the project and sometimes requires relaunching the REALbasic application.

Text files do not have this limitation.
