I'd be tempted to suspect the rumor of having originatad with an
Apple decision to remove all non-UB *Apple* software from store
shelves.

While there hasn't been anything official, I believe this may only affect the Apple branded software. However, we know that Apple is working *very* quickly to get all of their apps UB.

By the time July rolls around, most of the Apple apps may be UB anyway.

I do not think there is a mandate to remove non-apple software from the shelves - however, if there were, it would sure force the developers to get their universal binaries done.... uh RS? :-)

Either way many Apple Specialists will continue to have a good selection of software on their shelves ( http:// www.applespecialist.com ) if you cannot find what you need at other locations.

Anyone catch the note on ThinkSecret where they said

Further, sources have learned that Apple is currently planning
to pull all software from store shelves in July that isn't
available
in Universal Binary format. The policy is presumably designed
to
improve customer experience with new Intel-based Macs, as
native
Universal Binaries perform considerably better than PowerPC
software running under Rosetta on Apple's newest systems.

Of course MS and Adobe will likely escape this but it's not
good news
for anyone with products in an Apple store if it's true
