From what I know it just takes the data (which is a blob of bytes)
and ends up returning a RB string containing those bytes.
Not QT involved
Definitely QT involved, since exactly the same code works with png,
gif, tiff, pict, etc. i.e. image formats that aren't supported
without QT.
