In the mid-90's, as far as software is concerned, Id say Japan was between
5-10 x that of France. Hardware wise, Apple went down a slope in Japan over
the course of the late 90's as the "Compaq Wars" picked up steam and
disemboweled the ingrown NEC dominance of the PC market.

Well, that sort of thinking is here to stay, like the joke of offering IP
telephony "nationwide" at a price near that of landlines.
