At least that is not what I would expect from an application
written for
the Mac (rather than being ported from Windows, without consideration
given to Macintosh conventions). I positively hate it when an
application restricts the way I use file extensions, requires me to
use
certain file extensions, or use extensions at all when I would
rather not.
Let's see, what the mothership says:
All they say is that when you create files that will be used on
different platforms, file extensions are quite useful. That isn't
exactly news; it's been like that for decades.
To me, HTML, XML, PHP etc. files are all text files. If I create an
HTML
file with a certain HTML editor, I want the file to be opened by its
creator, i.e. that HTML editor, when I double-click it. But I still
want
to be able to open the file with any application that can open text
files, using drag&drop or File/Open. The file extension serves just
one
purpose: when I upload the file to a web server, the extension
tells the
server how to interpret the file. But that's got nothing to do with
opening the file on my computer.

The only I could say, you are NOT familiar with the problem (and the
question) that started this thread.
Your text: TO me, HTML.... is absolute correct, and nobody have said
something other. I don't understand why you are
trying to show the other NUG readers, that I or Hans-Georg saying
something else...
