Touchwood ive been very pleased with my powerbook G4 since I moved from coding in XP.
2 yrs old and taken everywhere, plugged into this and that on firewire and usb. Ive had a stream of non apple junk that just dies as soon as ones back is turned.! ( knowing my luck my mac will now probably die tomorrow - time for a backup methinks ) Have to say - I wonder just how many problems are due to mains spikes. When I worked in Thailand a few years back it seemed almost de rigeur that everyone buying a PC bought a UPS as well. Not a bad move imo.
