If you are doing this on Linux, off course.
Think it may exist on OSX, but probably not on Windows

Does anyone have experience with kqueue? Does anyone have any
experience with making declares to system libraries? Is this even
possible? Currently I have a poll driven method of checking if
modifications have been made on a drive. I would like to have an
event based method where the finder(or the system) tells me that
some kind of action has happened on a drive. I know about folder
notifications, but I want to examine a couple thousand folders.
