The performance hit for me is that I work on different projects for
different people
Sometime several different one per day
And I have different plugins that they use and sometimes differing
versions of similar plugins like MBS or Einhugur so I can't just put
them all in one big Plugins folder and go to work and leave the
compiler to do it's bit to strip out unused items.
I have to move plugins around, and this means the caches get
recompiled and that I can't open more than one, maybe two, clients
projects at a time.
The cycle to quit, move plugins, relaunch, recompile is brutal
2006 makes it worse as it's a fair bit slower to precompile things
Once everything IS precompiled it's decent, but the next time I
switch plugins around I have this huge penalty
One project takes up to 18 minutes to precompile plugins and the
project itself
It's a productivity hit for me

For what its worth, why not try this:
Make a separate folder for each project/client.
Place a copy of RealBasic in each folder with selected plugins, RB
project etc.
(In other words - separate all projects completely.)
To work on a project, go into its folder and start its copy of
REALBasic, open your project and go from there. This would eliminate
moving Plugins and probably the time to recompile the Plugins.
