3) Save yourself the trouble and don't allow users to create tables
that include illegal characters.
A map of "user name" to "real name" will make constructing queries
immensely painful as you will have to replace the user name with the
real name all the time and any mistakes will ruin the results.
I was going to suggest the very thing. I'm working on a little DB
application myself and I just used a combination of editfield masks and
keydown events to check against a list of bad characters. If it finds
one I have the keydown beep and return true.
