Thank you very much for your suggestion. Though it apparently didn't go
out until this morning, I wrote that message last night while tired and
completely forgot an important point - I am not replicating the
hierarchy, but am instead copying portions of it to different locations
depending on various criteria. For that reason, I need to copy one file
at a time. I apologize for leaving that out and appreciate that you
took the time to reply. That'll teach me to post to the list when I'm
sleepy. :(
I did think about using a shell and cp to copy individual files, but
thought that it might not be significantly faster. Perhaps I'll give it
a whirl and see.
Assuming that the overhead of multiple executing shell commands is too
much, should I continue to pursue using API functions as my best bet?
