You can't get a class to be 'virtual' so to speak, but RB methods in classes are virtual by default, IIRC. If you want a pure virtual method, inherit from an interface that declares the method. Otherwise, just make a stub method in the superclass that subclasses can choose to override.
Actually if one want a class that can't be instantiated but can be inherited then just give it a constructor and set it to private.
