Doesn't surprise me much: This feature is available since (at least 5.5.5)
We use this approach in TrendyMac and it works (relatively) nice. Can't remember which, but there are certain flaws in 2D graphics exported this way. In case you are willing to restrict yourself a bit, this approach might be OK for you.
