I can answer this two ways. By the way, keep in mind that the situation is that
we are talking about a current-RB application (i.e. Power Mac only) that
_installs_ a product that is itself a universal binary application.

a) We OEM a software product from another vendor, add drivers for our own
devices, and make a significant number of other changes. Our installer needs to
install "the same thing" they install, whatever that may be, plus our delta.
And their installer offers slightly different installation choice and installs
slightly different things in the Intel and Power Mac environment. We need to do
"whatever they do," so we need to do different things on Intel and Power Mac.

b) Some of the differences are related to a dongle driver (which _they_ OEM
from the dongle manufacturer). I'm not sure I understand all the issues yet (I
have queries in), but in the Power Mac environment the dongle driver is a
kernel extension in the /System/Library/Extensions directory, whereas in the
Intel environment it's a framework in a directory local to their software.

In other words, don't ask _me_ why it matters whether it's Intel or PPC, all I
know is that two other vendors say it does.
