I did not know this - is this documented somewhere? Is there is a reason for
this restriction?

The RB manual does say that "Thread class objects are used to execute code
that needs to run independently of the user interface" - it doesn't say they
should be used to start UI, but then again it doesn't say threads
_shouldn't_ be used to start UI either!

Well, my test indicated that this is not the case. Of course, perhaps it
works by chance and is not officially supported and so may break in some
futuer version of RB.

I don't know. Perhaps someone from REAL or other more knowledgeable user
could clarify this.
