And compared to my PB 1.5 ghz - ie same spec roughly as your mac mini - I am not seeing any reall kicking of the proverbial bottom. ( unless you consider a X2 speed improvement a serious kicking of the rear... )

Don't forget that Apple's numbers are artificial benchmarks and are not related to real-life tests. The benchmarks that Apple did were highly optimized using vector and parallel processing to take advantage of every benefit of the new chips. So while Apple advertises a 4.7x improvement over the previous model, the increase is not an average but it is an absolute maximum speed increase.

Even MacWorld benchmarked the original Intel Duo iMacs at about 10%-15% faster than their G5 single-CPU counterparts in real world native applications (at the time the applications were mostly Apple applications).

The other issue with REALbasic applications is that they can only take advantage of a single processor at a time. This means that if REALbasic does at some point support multiple processors, your Mac Pro could theoretically see a 4x speed improvement in your app. If it is absolutely critical that you need this speed improvement now, you can see what you can do about converting your code to a REALbasic plugin and take advantage of multiple CPUs in your plugin.
