Don't forget that Apple's numbers are artificial benchmarks and are
not related to real-life tests. The benchmarks that Apple did were
highly optimized using vector and parallel processing to take
advantage of every benefit of the new chips. So while Apple
advertises a 4.7x improvement over the previous model, the increase
is not an average but it is an absolute maximum speed increase.
Even MacWorld benchmarked the original Intel Duo iMacs at about
10%-15% faster than their G5 single-CPU counterparts in real world
native applications (at the time the applications were mostly Apple
applications).
The other issue with REALbasic applications is that they can only
take advantage of a single processor at a time. This means that if
REALbasic does at some point support multiple processors, your Mac
Pro could theoretically see a 4x speed improvement in your app. If
it is absolutely critical that you need this speed improvement now,
you can see what you can do about converting your code to a REALbasic
plugin and take advantage of multiple CPUs in your plugin.
