I have also been stung by this. I think that behavior is simply the
nature of the EditField in RB with Mac OS X. It's interesting that
this is not the case on Windows as far as I've observed (text remains
selected through the life of the ConstructContextualMenu function). I
don't know if that implies a bug, but it would be nice if it were
consistent cross-platform. At least there is a workaround for this as
you've discovered.

then everything works fine.
